Situated 25km down the mountain is the busy town of Siteia. This is a lovely town with a backdrop of the blue sea, well known for its fine olive oil and red wine. Set around the harbour, boats bob on the sea and restaurants line the sea front. A stroll at night in the summer allows you to feel part of a magical land where lights glimmer or you can sit and watch the world pass by, as holidaymakers stroll on the front in their finest attire.

Siteia is a popular destination for Greeks who live in Athens through the year but return to the island each summer and bring a bustle of life to the Siteia.

There are many lovely shops around the twisting roads where you can find different kinds of sweet pastry shops and bakeries all selling their own variety of sticky sweets, each with different sorts of breads to make your mouth water, which will make you crazy hungry. Kafenions are found on all streets, coffee bars to savour a little Greek coffee or cafes selling gyros and cold beer. The shops of the town sell many varied glass, toys, general goods
and souvenirs. It is best to take advantage and buy for yourself and friends. If you are one for a walk you can explore the fortress above the harbour and take advantage of the many traditional buildings that inhabit the town and its periphery.
