VoilaA short walk from The Lemon Tree, up the hill, through the village square and out beyond on a small winding road, passing a little white church sitting in the dappled sunshine, takes you to the ruins of Voila, a ruined mediaeval village.

You will explore this site alone, gaining a real moment of peace and tranquillity interrupted only by the haunting memories of a time gone by. It is said in 1583 to have a population of 301.

On the tower of Voila there is the Turkish inscription of the date 1153, this translates to the year 1742 AD. Whilst the double church has a dedication to St George and is said to be built in the 15th Century.

People come from locations across the island to see the ruins of Viola. We have a little tradition of walkers who park in the village car park opposite The Lemon Tree, come to us to look at the menu and choose their food which is prepared for them whilst they explore the old ruins.

They return to us after their walk for a feast of food. It is possible also to drive directly to the site and park close by. It is also worth taking the road out of the village parallel to the Viola road which if you look across to Viola from, allows you to really experience the scale and sense of these ruins as they are set out before you.
