Gourmet: To vimaIn his kitchen and restaurant, Mark made us travel through Crete, England and many other countries all over the world. The best experience we had: a surprising fantasy-menu that was especially created for us. We thought we were travelling in paradise! Every meal is a composition of colours, tastes and flavours.

We can’t think of enough wonderful things to say about The Lemon Tree! We stumbled on it whilst on an ‘adventure’, exploring the island from Makriaglos.  Mark was very welcoming and was keen to make us and our two girls feel at home. We loved the setting – the herb garden, the grapes, the paintings. The food was outstanding – something you would find in a Michelin Star restaurant at home. Mark’s enthusiasm and passion for food and his ‘creation’ is fantastic.

What a refreshing change to find a menu on Crete with a different selection of dishes. Wonderful combination of flavours and beautiful presentation. Peaceful situation, genial hosts and the perfect atmosphere. What more could we wish for. The discerning will beat a path to your door.

We have enjoyed a lovely meal and a wonderful welcome. Thank you all very much for making today memorable.

A delightful stop on our way back to Makriaglos from the beach. This is so unique from the world we come from – Vancouver, Canada. It was wonderful to find this oasis. Wonderful food and great coffee.

What a haven! Great food in a lovely garden. We both had a great evening.

We thought we’d stumbled on a traditional Cretan taverna. We little expected an English host or lamb with chocolate sauce! Wonderful place, delicious different food and a unique ambience. Good Luck!
Turn the corner and what a great surprise! Friendship, hospitality and great food. Lemons on the menu and The Lemon Tree firmly on your mind as you turn the corner and Handras slips from view. Crete at its best.

We came to the taverna The Lemon tree by accident, after a mountain trip. It was a very nice break, after a soda the owner recommended some delicious deserts. The chocolate cake gave us new energy to have a little walk to the ruins in this beautiful environment. The owner decorated the dessert beautifully with mint, thyme and rosemary from his own well treated garden. The lemon garden: a nice place where hospitality and delicious food are of high quality.

We sit half expecting Gerald Durrel to arrive at any moment. The sun promised a wonderful day – a perfect follow-on to a good night and a superb evening. Mark provided us with a magnificent meal, a strange mix of the magic of Crete and the foods of good old England. We loved it here, only the length of Crete and so much to see in so short a time preventing us from lingering for a few more days. How lucky those who follow us here are! Keep on cooking Mark.

Thanks Mark. When I come to meet a chef who loves what he is doing I feel that the road was not long…. I could spend hours talking with you  and tasting your food that comes from your heart as much as it comes from your mind. The sorbet is a “memory” from our childhood.

The Lemon Tree is a very special place. We came here upon recommendation and loved it. We are both picky eaters and Mark out-did himself to prepare a truly wonderful meal for us.

Keep up the good work in the Mediterranean diet,

Great food, excellent environment and a special night away from the city. Can’t wait for the winter so that we can enjoy the peculiar recipes by the fireplace along with some good wine.

Fruit-flavoured raki; cod and mussels in a fresh sauce; apricot pie with a dash of raki liqueur. My oh my, delightful and delicious!  Great to see Mark and Anita and their two lovely sons enjoying their home.

What we found was something we were really not expecting: a crazy man called Mark who cooked delicious meals. Things we never ate before in crazy combinations but sitting together in perfect harmony. We had wonderful hours we will keep in mind.
