The Food

The foodWe offer you a real food experience, where you have the opportunity to explore taste sensations. Our menu changes to reflect seasonal produce and availability on the island (East Crete Sitia - Makrigialos). Where possible food is homemade and created in our kitchen, giving it a unique flavour; full advantage is taken of the beautiful herbs of the island and this is reflected in the food served.  Sauces are prepared in the kitchen (not bought in), soups, sweets and pastas are all homemade and thus special to The Lemon Tree.

Starters can include special feta; home-made ravioli and pastas; Greek Beans; basil, tomato and feta salad; garlic prawns; seafood spaghetti; beetroot and horseradish salad. Our main courses span a diversity of dishes which can include lazy marinated pork ribs with chicken;  Lemon Tree curry; pan-fried pork fillet; mixed seafood platter; kebabs with a twist – prawn and smoked bacon with peppers encrusted with crushed salt and coriander seeds; mussel and potato Creole; special chicken and other varied appetizing foods. We always have vegetarian options available, currently a courgette lasagne – the combination of local courgettes in a specially made tomato sauce layered in homemade pasta sheets is astounding (and I’m not the type of girl that normally gets excited about a courgette).

We have a tempting range of desserts, how about pineapple, pan-fried and wrapped in bacon with rosemary, red wine and butter-cream sauce or a double chocolate baked pudding? Poached pears are a favourite, often enjoyed with blue cheese whilst the fruit from the island provides a lovely filling for our fruit pies. Our testimonials from our Visitors Books show a real appreciation of our homemade dishes and wonderment at the tastes created.

Enjoy a pot of home-blended and ground coffee and be amazed at the flavours or experience the ‘Homebrewed House Liqueur’ which is 5 years in development and testing and contains 16 different ingredients – a work of art in taste. Sit in the afternoon shade with a pot of tea and homemade cake. Bliss.

Be prepared to be astonished by our tastes and flavours, maybe figs with your dish or fried feta with fig chutney.
